Subject: Been considering Author: Neal Weaver [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 10:11:36 07/27/10 Tue Some of my guys have had a bit of a layoff fighting, due to work commitments and injuries and so forth. I have considered trying to get a referee license just so I can see exactly what these guys are taught and how they are taught to ref a match. Some of the things I have seen the past couple years make me cringe a little, and I would really like to see how these guys are trained. (I know one ref has a Judo background and Dale Frye is a legit Kickboxing champ but an ref with alot of MMA experience is the missing link in our state) [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

I have seen him stand fights up from mount, and stopped a fight once as a choke was being attempted (the guy who was being choked didnt tap, and was not close to tapping/as choke was not on tight). The best ref I have seen so far was a fellow out of pittsboro, he seemed to understand his job the best, but sadly, most of the ones I have seen, flat out suck. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

Had another tell me once, after a training for the first time, he never understood the difference between being mounted and having a guy in your guard.
