Subject: Ring or Cage or How about neither?

I was thinking about this the other day. MMA events was started in the cage we call it cage fighting, but fighting in the cage has changed over they year, now you cant use the cage in anyway you cant hold it to get leverage for hitting you can't grab it to stop a take down, the way it looks now it really benefits the guy who is doing the take downs he drives into the cage, change levels and lifts the other guy can block but it is really harder then in the middle of the ring where you can sprawl. and the cage is best to drive to the ring when you are in the guard to pound on the guy underneath, that is a good thing about the cage, but does it really make for a better MMA fight?? or safer??

the Ring, allot of events are going or went to the ring?? NC VA almost every where i have seen events the ring is used, ok now how does that change the sport or makes it better or safer? every time i have seen one the referee has to grab the ropes to keep the guys from going out of the ring, you have a little option to drive against the ropes to get a throw but you have to put your opponent away from the ropes to keep from legs from getting tangled in the ropes, maybe i guess you can drive when you are in the guard in to the corner post to ground and pound, maybe that may be a plus for a fighter, but with shows like pride or bodog they are resetting the fighters in the middle in the same position kinna like a grappling match going out of bounds,

of course all MMA events are resetting back to the standing position if nothing is happening on the ground, that is with the ring of a cage.

so i have one question with all of these changes back a fourth. Fighters have to make adjustments from fighting in a cage and a ring, how about a regular wrestling mat lets say 40X40 with let say 25 feet active space, couldnt a MMA match be done, with the proper control of a referee, on that??

The Original UFC matches were done in a cage to keep people from running out of bounds? that is not going to happen in today times i think. if the mat was big enough you can shoot threw and get the take down, striking don't change on a mat or on a ring, or cage, using the cage of ring is illegal anyway now. the referee would just reset fighters to the middle what the ring events are doing anyway, and keep the action going.

the biggest reason for the ring is not safety it is for marketing, right?? everyone wants to see a cage or at least a ring to consider it a real fight?? but if it is safe for a grappling match, why is it not safe for a MMA fight??

Your idea isnt terrible. But it would take a Roman collesium type venue to do it and still have alot of seating. Also, there is some unexplained force in the universe that says people WILL GO TO THE EDGE OF THE COMBAT surface no matter where they are fighting or how big the floor area. So even in a "pit" guys are going to be up against a wall of some sort, unless you want guys to fight on a football field or something, which could get really funny when one guy wants to avoid the other one a little.

Ring properly prepared I think has a fine place for MMA, a Cage with few corners also works. I think we are stuck with those for a good while either way.
