Subject: Takedown Question

Does a snapdown count as a Takedown is submission grappling or even BJJ. To be more specific; If I snap my opponent down, move to his back; he counters by attempting to play guard, I pass his guard and secure side body for more than 30 sec's before he escapes back to his feet....
How many points do I get. Anyone who does Tournaments, help me out please.

Ses,
It's my understanding that you do get two points for a snapdown takedown. Even if he doesn't spin to play guard, as long as you show control after going to his back you get the points. This however has not always been the case. If he does spin and replace guard and then you pass and maintain side control, then you get the three additional points for the pass.

Ses,

As guy said this should be a takedown and you should be awarded 2 points as long as you show control when he hits the ground. In essence you have taken the fight from the feet to the ground with control and techniques.

In many tournaments it depends on who is reffing and thier understanding of what a takedown is.

Thanks Twister,

Im trying to train an older fighter (36, old for a novice in terms of combat sports) He doesn't have a grappling background but he has a decent snapdown, Im just
trying to supplement that for his lack of takedown ability.
