Subject: FORUM: COME TO LIFE/MMA GOING TO BE LEGAL

So I was sitting in the office a little bored after doing some phone jockying and decided to see if we can maybe, just maybe get some life pumped into this forum.

Seeing as how MMA is about to be legal anywhere in the state in a few months I would expect more people to be pumped up about it. After attending a meeting regarding the rules and suggestions to ammending/finalizing them I am somewhat optimistic that the State wont hinder MMA too much and is legitimately interested in making it a thriving sport.

That said, Va and Ky promoters could be in trouble filling fight cards after the finalizing of the rules and events start rolling in NC. Also I imagine several SC fighters wont make the trip to Va or Ky as often either. In any event I have been working on building my guys for MMA in NC as all of them want to fight close to home. Bad thing is I cant see all the guys who want and who will be able to fight on the first couple of shows being able to do so, unless someone out there wants an all TFTC card in one corner.

So lets hear it guys, who else is pumped about this? Also as a side note we should also thank Jason, who along with his partners, has been a driving force, him and Mr Muhle managing to get this thing rolling this past session. Now if the state does what they say should happen its just a couple months away.

Any word on the Sanctioning Bodies.....I know that kickboxing is K.I.C.K. and IKF once had a foot hold in NC....Will ISCF (sub-division of IKF) be the name brand promoters have to use or will they be able to use another sanctioning body????

From what I gathered the sanctioning bodies, so long as they follow the state guidelines are under no particular restrictions or favorites. But that i dont remember being a topic at all at the rules meeting. I personally was alot more concerned about prospective round length for amatuers and allowing head kicks.

I would like to think the sanctioning body would be able to dictate that ruling.....SES!!!1

Well Ses that is why we wanted to allow more liberal rules and time limits set by the states. That way sanctioning bodies can shorten rounds or disallow techniques they dont like, but wont be hampered by the state in doing so.

As Jason said at the meeting, he did not want the state to define the sport, but to regulate it. To do that the more liberal the rules, the more the sanctioning bodies can do. IF the rules are very limiting the sanctioning bodies are sort of handcuffed with regards to round length or specific techniques allowed.

I get what your saying.....The State by instinct is going to play safe because it's all new to them.....Many of the Sanctioning bodies dealing with MMA have been doing it for quite some time and are not afraid of kicks to the head (without shin guards).....Speaking of which did anybody hear anything about Georgia having to use more safety equipment in their amature MMA events (Head Gear, shorter rounds, shin guards, ect.)

SES???

What is the general difference in how amateur vs pro mma will be regulated?

Thanks to all involved in this movement. I know that Jason has been pushing for this for years. The Twister really deserves his props.

The amatuers most likely wont have any elbows or knees to the face standing or on the ground. Round length is up in the air, the State wants 3 minute rounds with 90 sec breaks, we all wanted (at least people at the meeting) wanted 5 minute rounds with 1 minute breaks. Dont know what the State is going to finalize.

The State was also going to not allow any head kicks, which I find retarded, and it seems they are taking that one under advisement, dont know where the rule will end on that one.

Yes Wob, I will be there. Trent's got a fight Saturday nite in Virginia Beach, most of the guys are pulling out early for that. Jeff said he would be there though.
I still may go see his fight, just not leaving at 5am.

If anyone else wants to ride up for the fight let me know, i'll drive. If I go, I won't leave until 3:30 or so.

The rules meeting went really well at least on the surface. Brandon, Kevin Pyles, Brent Pierce and a few others were in attendance to push for fairly liberal rules allowing the coaches, fighters and promotions to decide what rules will be allowed. I think we mad significant headway but we will have to see once I get an updated copy.

It was great to see that just about everyone in the room agreed to the same ideals. We had some great discussion and hopefully the state was receptive. Thanks to all of those who came out in support.

Good Luck Trent!! Kicks some ass

Do you have a time frame as to when they will rule on the possible finalized rules? It would be nice to know how they are going to turn out.

Trent won in 23 seconds by TKO.

Hi Guys,

Just found out about this forum. First time poster. I use to keep track if mma was going to be legal in NC. So are you saying it is about to be? Because I have some fighters that are chomping at the bit for it. Any updates on when, the rules and who is throwing the first shin dig?

Thanks,
Ron Cooper
