Subject: These crazy kids in class...

I had these kids in class the other day talking about fighting. In the conversation the UFC came up. So one kid piped up talking about how good the UFC is, but that he can't use "that ground stuff" because he is "more of a boxer and a street style". Then he proceeded to demo some "awesome" (insert laughter here) shadow boxing to the group.

Out of nowhere this girl chimes in, "Yeah, my friend is a black belt in Jiu Jitso."

sweet....

Steve

You Know Steve, I've noticed alot of new "Fan's" to the Sport, and that's a good thing. Twister, Billy and Myself
talked about this in July of '06, mentioning the fact that more people are training, which gives you a larger talent pool for fighters. However, there are some who are status seekers who justify their existence by measuring themselves to the UFC mainly because it's on TV a lot more.

Some claim to fight in other combat sports like your situation, I had a guy tell me that he was a "Mu Tao"(Phonics) fighter and was going to switch to
"Ultimate Fighting" when he lost weight.

Some like to Drop names of local guy's...I've heard
Twister, Ro Brower, Brandon Weaver, the Tattoed guy (Billy)
and even had one guy who I never seen before tell me that
he rolled with Ringskilz.....(having no Idea of my connection to the RZ). I'm a big fan of any Competitor the competes in "Continous movement sports" because of the risk
involved. (Some try to say grappling is not too combative, but I say anything that can break or render you unconcious has some level danger to it; can be defined as combative.)

There are guy's in and around the state that have been involved in promoting, exposing, fighting, the politics and the B.S. of this sport , Since '93. I go to their websites, send them e-mails, go to their events, maintain some form of contact. Beacause I know that they keep their ear to the ground.

If a person needs info about training, video, tournaments, fighters or whatever, I try to give it to him and move on, because satisfying his ego is a waste of his and my time.

There's a guy that I work with who recently started training with the guy's in Angier, I'm proud of him because
he's been searching since August and he finally found a gym
that fits his Schedule. Now that's someone who I'm willing to hold conversation with; a man of action.

Kassim? Sorry if I butcher the spelling, and if that's who you meant he is a man of action, and progressing well.

I've only trained with him about 3 or 4 times but you can see the potential.....It's like you said in the post about "Athletics" with a little time and leaving his ego at the door he will be one of thoes guys who makes it to the National spot light.....Local titles and regional titles shouldn't be a problem for him in say a year or two.
