“Ruckus in the Cage" Mixed Martial Arts Invades Roanoke Civic Center Oct. 7
Roanoke Valley’s first ever mixed martial arts, no holds barred, extreme fighting event is coming to the area. Ruckus In The Cage I invades the Roanoke Civic Center Coliseum Saturday night, October 7th at 7:30. Tickets go on sale Friday, Sep. 1.
The Ruckus In The Cage card is loaded with MMA (mixed martial arts) ground and pound action where fighters are allowed to kick, punch, elbow, knee, joint lock and choke each other until someone passes out, taps out, gets knocked out or loses by decision.
The fights will take place inside the 20 foot diameter hexagon cage and will feature the most talented, best trained amateur mixed martial arts fighters from the area and surrounding communities. The cage girl bikini contest promises to keep the nonstop action even more exciting. Top prize takes home $1,000 cash and a trophy.
The event will be broadcast to a worldwide audience LIVE on Pay-Per-View through Wireless Events Network Inc. (www.wenppv.com). Anyone around the world can watch hastle free on over 51 multiple handheld mobile devices as well as internet browsers.
Fight promoter Chris Smith says Roanoke’s first ever MMA cage event is getting an overwhelming response locally, nationally and worldwide. “We have had to turn away hundreds of fighters. We receive tons of applications hourly from far away places including Texas, California, Arizona, New York, Hawaii, Brazil, Japan and France. Everyone wants to fight on this card because of the global audience from Pay-Per-View. We are planning 15 very exciting fights featuring the best trained fighters the Roanoke Valley and surrounding area has to offer.
Well respected trainer Dennis Hayes of Hybrid Martial Arts currently has four guys fighting on the card. Top 10 world ranked MMA fighters Joel Wyatt and Ray Halstead of Roanoke are fighting on the card. Wyatt is currently the #6 ranked light heavyweight amateur MMA fighter in the world (200 lbs.). Halstead is currently ranked #9 in the world as an amateur middleweight (170 lbs.). Hybrid Martial Arts is located near Hooters on Williamson Rd. in Roanoke.
The biggest secret around the areas mixed martial arts seen is about to be revealed. World Extreme and Ultimate Fighting Championships legendary veteran fighter Jack “The Ripper” Nilsson is training several combatants that will be competing in the Oct. 7 event. Nilsson, a 3-time national kick boxing champion has fought dozens of times on Pay-Per-View in World Extreme and Ultimate Fighting Championships years ago when there were no rules. Rippers Ultimate Martial Arts gym is located inside the Downtown Sports Club on Church Ave.
Rising star and the areas top professional MMA fighter Tim Mannon of Team Mannon Reality Fighting at New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg is training several fighters for the Roanoke Civic Center event.
Smith says he is more than pleased with the Ruckus In The Cage I promotion so far. “MMA is here to stay forever. This is the fastest growing combat sport in the world. I tip my hat to everyone in the martial arts community for being extremely helpful and getting involved.”
