I'm offline for a few days and things turn into poop. Dang. Sux.
I think that Twister pretty much summed it up in another post. There have been a handful of key people trying to legalize MMA in this state for year. All of the chest thumping just keeps setting everyone back.
Ses made a good point as well. We rarely had any internal problems on this board before. The people who did post and disagree were not against meeting each other in the ring, on the mat wherever. None of the bickering and player hating started until things began to heat up over the Battle Cry/NCBC situation last year.
As for that situation, I think it is a shame. Nobody really won out on that one. One man has been insulted and threatened and accused of doing something underhanded. Another man has lost his right to hold events in the state of NC which, in turn, is prolly hitting him right in the wallet. Both of these guys ended up losing out. More than likely, those who read this forum are now questioning each man's motives and character.
I can't speak much for Anthony because I really haven't had a chance to sit down and chew the fat with him. I do respect what he was trying to do, I just feel like he went about it the wrong way. You don't always have to attack every situation head on. There comes a time when finesse and tact have to be put before a battle charge. I like the ideas he comes up with for promoting his events and I think that he is very charismatic about it. That is a good thing.
On the other hand, Anthony, it really makes people question you when you try to trash talk others without even really knowing what they are about. It makes people see you and everything you are trying to do in a negative light. This situation with you and James is BS and it needs to be squashed. If you can't settle it with words then I say take it to the mat. It's that simple.
I think the point that others were trying to make about your situation with the NCBC is this.....by acting the way you did without taking other's words into consideration you damaged credibility to our sport and set things back a bit. If I remember correctly, when you first posted about this event several people posted and let you know that it wouldn't be a good idea. People such as Jason, Frank, and Billy have been fighting for years to get MMA legal in NC and this kind of "rogue" attitude that you purveyed was something that NC MMA didn't need. Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe that there is a time and place for that. But you should have heeded the words of people who were more experienced in dealing with NCBC. That's my opinion.
As for James, I have known him for years and have worked with him on several events in the past. He is truly dedicated to the sport and does an excellent job of coaching his people. As far as I have known, his intentions have always been geared to promoting the sport of grappling in a positive light. He seems to be proud to hold his association with Royce Gracie and Team ROC. You can't fault anyone for that. Team ROC is a good team. They have good people training hard to make it that way. James does his best to try and uphold that standard.
But the bickering has to be stopped on both ends. It just makes both of y'all look like donkey's butt.
With this being said, I will just reiterate to everyone on the board that we all need to get this crap behind us and press on to a common goal. Let's get our stuff together and make things happen. Support each others event as best you can. Offer a helping hand and let's be respectful of each other. If you do enough digging, you can come up with dirt on everyone. It's definitely not hard to do. You just have to form your own opinion as a man and let it stand. Not everyone will get along, but we can still work together.
And I can't close this letter out without addressing the multitude of comments made by Billy D. You sir, are a very sick man. Personally, I think you need a thorough psychiatric evaluation done by a qualified professional. Beyond that point, however, you make me laugh. Heck, you make everybody laugh. Let's give a round of applause too BiLLy ladies and gentleman. Yay. =P
As always, questions, comments or thinly veiled threats can be sent to my e-mail address above. 5000.
God bless y'all.
Steve
