Subject: Charges at last - from B'ham Evening Mail

A FATHER and son who ran a car import firm which crashed owing creditors across the country more than £800,000 have finally been charged after an 18-month probe.
Keith and Bryan Hallatt were arrested in January last year after Stafford-based Automodena went into voluntary liquidation leaving around 180 customers high and dry.
The pair, who were both Automodena directors, are charged with fraudulent trading, conspiring to defraud creditors and obtaining money or money transfers by deception.
The allegations were put to them at Stafford police station yesterday(Mon) afternoon after police concluded a complex investigation of their affairs.
Keith, 66, and Bryan, 35, are due to appear at Stafford Magistrates' Court on Friday(May 23).
Victims left out of pocket when Automodena shut down included Worcestershire peer the Earl of Darnley, who was owed £3,000.
Others launched a campaign for justice and an Internet forum set up to discuss the situation was besieged with messages from angry customers.
The Hallatts were also given a rough ride when they appeared at a behind-closed-doors creditors' meeting to discuss the situation weeks after they were arrested.
In a statement to customers, liquidator Anthony Galloway read a message from the pair in which they described their firm's plight as "particularly galling".
They said they had 200 enquiries from potential car buyers less than a week before calling in Mr Galloway's firm, BDO Stoy Hayward, but did not think they could be pursued "without the right funding".
