Hey Chad! Hope all is well with you. I am flattered that you consider me a "source" for Yankee news. George usually calls me before making any moves, but please don't spread that around,The Boss doesn't want anyone to know...

I think the Yanks try to camoflauge most of their inner-circle plans by making sure their name comes up in just about every possible scenario, every possible rumor. I feel that in their minds, they think this is necessary to keep the other clubs guessing.

In this case(the Posada and Pettitte rumors)they are once again setting the stage for contract negotiations, free agent signings, and/or trade talks with other clubs. As to whether they would actually pull the trigger on a Posada deal or let Pettitte walk, your guess is as good as mine, although I don't think either will happen. When push comes to shove, letting two guys who have come up through the organization leave just because of money would leave a bad taste throughout the Yankee fan base and the hometown media. Granted, they are trying to be financially frugal and not let their own dealings affect the entire market in general, but they are smart enough not to let the pressure of lowering payroll affect their judgement of talent and public approval.

By the way,The Sporting News had a blurb by Ken Rosenthal the other day--the D-Backs had declined an offer by the Yanks-Damian Miller and Greg Swindell for Raul Mondesi. This adds fuel to ther fire regarding Posada's future. Of course,it might be the Yanks just working on all their options by creating a market for Whore-Hey.

Take care,Chad........
