Thank you to everyone that offered their condolences. Not sure why I feel the need to post it, but this is a link to his obituary:
http://www.nctimes.net/news/2002/20021224/yyyy.html

His last name is Fries, but it's pronounced like Freeze. Kathy, you may recognize his childrens' names from times we talked. I've taken care of Megan and Spencer a lot of times, and might have mentioned them to you. His passing was also mentioned at surfline.com. From this link, you'll see mention of him on the left side under the "Local Knowledge" section:
http://www.surfline.com/surfline/livecams/getsurfmapsurfbreakreport.cfm?alias=oceansidecam

He wasn't a great surfer, in fact with 2 kids it had probably been a couple of years since he'd actually surfed. But it's a pretty tight knit community, and he was just that kind of guy. Everyone that met him thought he was one of their best friends.

Mike, what Seth said didn't offend me. In fact, if you go back to Page 4 of the Archives, you'll see I said almost the same thing as Seth last New Year's, under the thread called "Resolutions" started by weas. As for the things I resolved to do, it was more coincedence than anything, that it happened just before New Year's. If my friend had passed away in June, I suppose I would have made some changes then.

p.s. Thank you to the person that emailed me instead of posting here.
