Subject: Braves, Blackjack and Love

Hi guys, I just got back from a weekend trip to the casino and something wonderful happened to me there.....and I just wanted to share this touching experience with some people that have also touched my heart.....I was sitting at a blackjack table having a great time.....I knew the dealer and had become friendly with his wife on a previous trip...I always play at his table and inquire about her....(she can't play at his table.....but, sat at a neihboring table and fussed at him for giving me bad hands....we were instant friends)....The casino is on an Indian Reservation in Mississippi....I have gotten to know so many people that work there and gamble there..........as we get to visit them fairly often.......getting back to my story....A chair beside me become open....along comes a lady in her early 70's.....she is in a wheelchair and has an oxygen tank....her husband was with her and was standing behind her telling her what cards she had and what kind of cards the dealer was showing.....I then realized that her vision was also failing her....They were from Atlanta and big Braves fans......They were celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversery........This man stood behind her helping her play for hours........as the time went by we chatted about so many things....our shared love of Braves baseball...our shared love of Las Vegas.....Blackjack etc...Finally he felt like he could trust me with her long enough to run to the bathroom....While he was gone.....she told me she was dying.....and that he was doing everything within his power to make her last days wonderful....That much was obvious....Later on a fight had broken out behind us....this man wrapped his arms around her to protect her from the crowd and the fight.....she got scared and almost started crying.....it was kind of scary for me.....I can only imagine how one would feel in her shoes.... I padded her hand and told her everything was ok.....that the fight was over and security guards were taking the men away....We shared e-mail addresses and I plan to remain in contact with them....Some of you may wonder why I wanted to post this......but, I don't think God sends strangers our way without a reason........My relationships with men have not been the best in the world....I blame myself for a lot of that as I have a problem trusting a man to be faithful and even remaining faithful to one man........Can you imagine 50 years of hard work to hold a marriage together, paying a mortgage etc.......And now saying good-bye......In the past I have wondered why anyone would bring a loved one on oxygen and in a wheelchair in such a loud rowdy place.....but, since I have fallen in love with the cards.........I know.....if that is where they wanna spend their last days........to Hell with what the rest of the world thinks.......Thanks for letting me ramble.....Gina
