A Cardinal fan friend of mine wrote this Saturday, after hearing of Kile's death:

Tragedy strikes and we all lose our smile
In the same week we’ve lost both Jack Buck and Darryl Kile Two men with characters completely untainted
Portraits of how mothers want their young sons painted They filled us with joy, brought on so many cheers
Our hearts are now heavy, eyes weighed down with tears
We knew Jack was leaving, not when, surely soon
But if life were a day, Darryl left before noon
So many questions, they’re gone now, but why?
These men seem like family, like someone close died

Sometimes life is a song, a great story to tell
Jack lived his life long, and he lived it so well
He touched so many people in a positive way
About him no one had a bad thing to say
His words picked us up even when we felt down
His voice made it almost impossible to frown
Jack has gone on to the far better place
He ran several miles after his marathon race
It would be almost unthinkable luck
To live out a life, just like Jack Buck

But every thought of Darryl leaves us nothing but sad
His wife lost a young husband, his kids lost their dad
So often we view life with nary a care
Forgetting that sometimes life’s short and unfair
Unspeakable pain for his kids and his wife
How could today be the last of his life?
This is a mistake, right? It would certainly seem
We’ll all wake up soon from the same crazy dream
‘Cause Young men like Darryl don’t die in their sleep
They live to be old, and their bloodlines run deep
They love and they live their lives to the fullest
To see one leave this early is life at it’s cruelest

The true heart of sports is not losses or wins
But how many people you turn into friends
We’ve lost two of the best in the very same week
One at his end, and one in his peak
Jack, Darryl, come out for one last curtain call
We’re giving you both a standing ovation, we’re giving our all
You gave us so many fond memories, which will now have to do us
From now til forever, you’re both missed in St Louis
