Subject: Selby at the bat

This was in the paper here today and I thought it was cute...If I get nothing else to cheer about this season as an Indians fan...at least I have yesterday's 10-7 win :-)

The outlook wasn't good for the Tribeville nine that day;
The score stood seven to four with but one inning left to play.
But McDonald surprised with a single, and Perez offered the same,
After Magruder grounded out, Vizquel's single enlivened the game.

It was Rivera on the hill, but Burks didn't seem to care,
His double plated Perez, and on third Vizquel did share.
Up stepped Thome, the muscled brute, who Rivera wouldn't face,
Four balls later, the bags were packed, and pulses were a-race.

But Fryman was overanxious; all three swings went awry,
Now the game hung in unknown hands,no matter just how spry.
No Manny, no Juan, no Robbie; how could this be the case?
A season down the drain; a kingdom for a familiar face.

Selby? Bill Selby? He of the .245 percentage swing?
Surely this was a lost cause, Rivera's wicked slants would finally sing.
But two pitches soared high, the Yankee lacked his zip,
His 2-2 cutter didn't quite slide, and the unknown took his rip.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land, the sun hasn't shone in days;
The stock market is tumbling sadly, a CEO is turning gray,
But yesterday, a clubhouse was silent, and an ace was yelling, "Bleep!"
For there is new joy in Tribeville - the Mighty Selby has gone deep.
