Subject: An Old Friend

Two years ago my friend Alex died in a drunk driving accident. I still am not over it, partially because of what i encountered a month ago. I was driving down the street that the accident occured on, and suddenly stoped because a baby deer and it's mother were crossing. My stupid boyfriend was trying to scare them and ran out of the car screaming and waving his hands around. I, knowing he was just fooling around, rolled my eyes looked away. I turned to the back seat to find my phone ringing, thinking it was my mom because i had been out late. I answered it and it was a fuzzy sound and the reception was breaking up, but the person said..."toni"...(my nick name) 2 or 3 times. I said "Mom?....Hello? who is this?" still no answer and so I hung up. Again i got the call, and this time it was more clear. The person said "Toni, its Alex, please come see me" I was flabergasted thinking it was a prank call and angrily hung up the phone. My boyfriend came back in the car saying he saw some dude walking around on a cell phone looking lost. My instant reaction was it was Alex, my friend who had got in the accident in that exact place two years prior, so I jumped out of the car, frealess of anything and still to this say i see his eyes behind that bush giving me a wink, and slowly disappearing.

I honestly think that that was his way of assuring me he is ok now, in heaven.
