I live in Lafayette, Oregon. In fact, I live in the "Old Gates House", in which Peter Gates lived until the late 1890's. He was killed in a freak wind storm, at night, in his tent, while hunting near Gales Creek, Oregon. He is buried in the Lafyatte Masonic Cemetary, of which you describe in your haunted comments. His wife and mother and child are also buried there. I have been there several times during the day, and do not feel it is haunted at all. There is a legend of the "gypsy/witch" curse on the town, but mosts people who have heard it, find it irrelevant. The most relevant part of her curse was that the town would "not amount to much", which is true, since McMinnville stole away the county seat from Lafayette over a hundred years ago.

Thank you,

Travis Johnson
Lafayette, Oregon
