The house was not closed down due to the unsettling activities - it has gone through many different owners in the last dozen years or so, and none of them had the knowledge or expertise to run a bed and breakfast. So it is now closed to the public.

The spirit presences in the home are not, and have never been, threatening. As with so many other homes and sites in the gold rush area, it is believed that the spirits in the Vineyard House are just unsettled folks who haven't moved on. They cause no harm, and hurt no one.
