Doom and gloom before we've even kicked a ball in competitive 'anger'?

As you've pointed out it was expected a number of JD's former charges from Burscough would join our ranks and this has happened. No one can argue against the fact that John won numerous promotions, trophies, etc during his time at Victoria Park and Ged and Co played a major role in those successes.

Last season's squad have been retained in the most part and apart from the six or seven game blip that led to Jim McBride's departure we were fairly solid. A good end to last season was always going to make it hard to have a massive clear-out of players (if that is what you felt was needed)

Summer signings such as Antony Bowden and Lee Poland are amongst a number of youngsters who have impressed. Maybe our selection of pre-season opposition has been inappropriate - with very poor pitches at Formby and Blackpool Mechanics - but sometimes these fixtures show the players' character (or not).

I personally think we have a squad of players capable of winning the league (but my feelings have been the same for the past two seasons). Success over 40+ league games requires a fair slice of good fortune, good weather, injuries, suspensons, etc. It also requires a management team that has a proven track record - let's judge John's summer signings on their performances during the season - not on a few meaningless pre-season friendlies.

Any players you feel we should have got rid of from last season?
