we both came up short

meanwhile...
there was a knock at my door while I was snoring
kinda loud
at 2 in the morning
it was a crack head
my room mate is hustling
what could I tell him though?
my nigga's struggling
trying to make ends meet
and pay the rent
he's a felon
you know how jobs play convicts
my best friend's mama
often sucks his dick
trying to get a hit
a much needed fix
while her daughter is at home
on the same shit
but instead of drugs
she craves the love
that her father failed to give her
because he failed to give her
a positive male figure
since she could remember
and they wonder
why the girl went crazy
she's 23
and already had 4 babies
now at that rate
she's likely to have about 7
by the time she makes 28
and then we'll shake
our heads in shame
as we debate
over who's the blame?
