Subject: LOL! NCHC TV Deal

So it looks like the whole NCHC breaking away from the WCHA is not working out to well with the fan bases over there!

Yesterday, CBS Sports Network announced their exclusive national TV schedule for the NCHC. 15 games plus the three tournament games from Target Center. All 15 games are on Friday nights and since CBSSN owns the national TV rights, no other broadcaster can go national with a game. Every team is on at least once, and UND is on the most with 6 games.

Well, this has a lot of UND (and other schools') fans in an uproar. For the last few years, their home games were carried on Fox College Sports, which could be picked up with the Sports Pack on DirecTV or Dish Network. Well, that won't be happening now. Their games still can be shown regionally on Midco, but if you are a fan outside of the region, or live where Midco is not an option, you are left with the web feed for a fee.

Doesn't look like this break away turned out too well for these teams in terms of the national TV deal they were expecting to get. In hindsight, they probably should have stuck with the WCHA and worked with FoxSportsNorth (who lost the Goofers to the Big Ten Network) on getting a regional TV package, and then with the Sports Packs, it would have gone out over DirecTV or Dish Network. It probably would have been very easy to get FoxSportsNorth to agree to allowing any games they are not broadcasting to allow the schools to maintain those rights for broadcast. With UND, BSU, MSU-M, St. Cloud and UMD in the mix, they would have had a pretty nice market to look at.

Just my thoughts, but I am kind of enjoying this right now!
