Subject: Mulder, the real estate mogul??

I recently caught part of "Paper Hearts" and zeroed in on an obscure fact this episode revealed. Mulder apparently owns more property on the East Coast than Donald Trump!!
In "PH" Mulder takes the bad guy to his father's house. Bill Mulder has been dead for over a year at this point (I think; Mulder's Dad died at the end of season two and I'm pretty sure that "PH" was a season four ep) and Mulder just walks into the house, which still has furniture but has dust covers and stuff on it. This is the same setup at the Mulders' summer house in Rhode Island. I presume Mulder inherited *both* these properties when his father died. I mean, who else would?? Samantha was dead and the parents were divorced. Also, Mulder *acts* like he owns the properties, walking right in. Then, when his mother dies in season seven, the obvious assumption is that he inherits *her* house in Connecticut. All of this is in addition to the place he actually lives, the apartment or condo he rents or owns in Virginia!!
And this is a guy who's worried about paying his cable bill??
