Subject: Let's hope Mulder. . . (vague season 8 and 9 spoilers)

really does return for the series finale! And that he's actually *starring* in the last episode (or, better yet, the last two episodes!) rather than just doing one of those "show up for two minutes" appearances like he did in some of the season eight eps that he was supposedly "starring" in.
I think DD has always wanted to be in on the finale of XF as a TV series. That's why he extended his original five-season contract 'til the end of the seventh season, then agreed to come back part-time for season eight. I think he, like the fans, just got tired of the endles "final seasons" and decided he wanted to do other things with his life, rather than just play Mulder forever. And, paradoxically, it was pretty much going to be impossible for DD to star in the final season of XF. . .as long as he was the leading man, the show garnered high ratings and so wasn't in danger of cancellation; it was only after he left that the ratings began to lag and FOX agreed with CC to end it as a TV series.
I think DD really wants to do it. The only complication I see is that their new baby is due right around the time I think TV series normally film their season finales. But maybe they could go ahead and film the series finale next month or whenever DD's available, then go back and film the rest of the stand-alone MOTW eps after that. Or, given the number of times XF has been pre-empted in recent months, maybe they aren't even going to broadcast a full 22-episode schedule this season, anyway.
