OC: I appreciate your posting the article I was thinking of and am glad you come here to visit. But I agree with SMH, how can your saying that DD can't appear in anymore films wearing suits or talking on a cell phone because Mulder did that NOT be taken as sarcastic comments? Islandgirl was only pointing out that DD was doing more Sci Fi related work which is a very specific genre. I think her point was valid while yours seemed to be primarily facetious and mocking Islandgirls' comments. You have some good things to say and hope you' continue to post but we don't need to put others down to do so.

CW, I was thinking the same thing about Jimmy Stewart. He's my favorite actor and has been both praised and criticized by people for essentially the same reasons. He usually played the same type of character. Some think that type of acting, being "yourself" is very difficult. I think it is if you're ging to be believable, and it often can take much more talent than just having big crying scenes or ranitng and raving throughout a movie.

DD is no different than most actors. Most have identifiable traits that always exist from role to role. Most of the golden age actors played similar parts in the majority of their films but that doesn't mean they weren't always good. DD has done some different things. Return to Me was certainly very different from The X-Files but of course we can find some similarities in the two men--Mulder and Bob. But you could do that with any two parts an actor plays. Even a man who plays Dracula in one film and a minister in the next! (Both are men, both are very popular with their followers and yes, both may wear suits at times and talk on the phone!).

As to DD's current choices. I agree his humor is more suited to a "British", sophisticated style or the style used in films by Albert Brooks, more literary. I don't think it's Sci Fi that he dislikes and he may do it again, he just got bogged down by the working hours on the X-Fies and wanted a change.
