Subject: NiC

Here's me wondering again... lol. Question is did you love or hate NiC? From most of the people I've talked to they either really loved it (okay okay... only a couple of people said that) or really hated it.

Personally I didn't like how Micah just appeared out of no where. Actually he has no point. I mean all Anita needs is another guy coming along that has the hots for her. And it looks as though Micah is more interested in her powers than her... *ehem* I think it's time for Anita to totally commit to Jean Claude... either that or she should send him on up to Canada for me. Hey, if she isn't going to have him then someone should. Besides I'm pretty sure that I could keep Jean Claude's borrowed blood warm on those oh so cold Canadian nights...

Don't worry Bad Popsicle, and all other JC worshippers, I'm more than willing to share ;)

actually i really didn't like NiC. it was too traumatizing. i like the old anita blake better GP, KD, etc. this one was massively porno. not bomb. i agree micah is random, but he doesn't whine and i really don't care what he thinks about anita, just so long as he doesn't pull self righteous bs. personally i respect the giant endowments that our micah posseses...i find it rather amusing.

hmmm. good question. i didn't particularly like NIC. the beginning was great, up until micah happened. then it all went down hill, and into the garbage pile. there was entirely too much sex. and i don't know whether to blame this on lkh herself, or maybe her publishers urged her to put more sex into the manuscript. i am almost positive the arduer was invented so anita could have an excuse to get it on with strange men, where her will power and character would normally not allow her to. and as far as the plot...yeah. it seemed to me lkh was just grabbing little tidbits here and there from the air, werebear here, oh, how bout a werefox to clean up the messes? and chimera was just a compilation of a whole bunch of were animals, and the crazy thing made him harder to deal with. as i said before, the scenes with micah and richard disgusted me. and why, oh goodness why, did jc not get some one on one? or atleast jc and asher. am i the only one who thinks getting rid of richard and micah and whipping up a menage a trois between asher, jc, and anita is a great solution.

here's another inconsistancy of the book that bugged me. in one part anita says in thinking about a menage a trois with jc and asher, or something similar, "i just can't get over the idea of two guys and me." but she just finished having sex with four guys at the same time! hello? oh, i'm sorry, she was at the arduer's beck and call there. garg.

so i guess what i'm saying is that i didn't like nic because it didn't fit with the rest of the anita books. its like the concept of the old books has now been forgotten, anita's struggle to mingle with the monsters but not become one. i miss the good ol' days of guilty pleasures on up to obsidian butterfly. and i realize alot of this melding has to do with the marriage of the marks, which had to be done anyways, but i don't think the arduer had to be brought in. its interesting and convienient, but the arduer bugs me at the same time. i hope its not permanent, because if the arduer goes that means micah can go out the door as well.

so i did not think laurell did that great of a job on this book. but i know she can do better, which she has proved to us time and time again. so i will forgive her, because mistakes can be made, we are all human. i also understand it must have been hell to throw that long of a book together in just a year. it may seem like a long time, but as an author myself i know that a year might as well be a day to write a really good involved story. so in taking the extended time to put out cerulean sins, i have faith that the blue book will be better than the one that should STAY in chains.

that's my rant. i hope its long enough for ya. lol.

I agree that NiC could have been so much better...it was the classic case of trying to please EVERYBODY and not really pleasing much of anybody...I enjoyed it, but it wasn't up to snuff. I've read the first chapter of CS that Laurell has posted on the fan club site, and it looks like she IS trying to get back to the old Anita...she's back at work at Animator's Inc. A new and previously unkown hit man is in town, but on personal business instead of a job. Going by a report I saw about a reading of the first four chapters or so, Musette arrives in town ahead of schedule. And of course the rumors that JC and Anita finally resume relations on page...and Asher is gonna be nekkid at some point in the book...WOOHOO! So there IS hope.

I've heard of NiC being described as a train wreck you JUST CAN'T look away from. Page after page of character slaughter. I personally saw those reviews BEFORE I read the book and therefore was prepared for what I read.

I can see where NiC is a means to an end and the next book will hopefully straighten out the HUGE MESS NiC left behind. Still, I have a very difficult time seeing it as anything other than one big filler section....as if some fanfiction artist stepped in and wrote the book....the only problem was...it wasn't an AB:VH fanfic author who wrote it...it was a Jack the Ripper author.

I enjoyed the first 6 chapters. I really like the dog's new outfit in that one. "growls" Hate the spaceman suit and haircut, hate the wierd S&M guy, felt like the whole mystery was an afterthought instead of the driving force of the book, liked Nat growing up a little, love Ash (as if that was ever in doubt), hated the AB/RAZ morning after scene. Refuse to comment on the shower scene.

I loved NiC! But I HATE Micah! I mean we had to wait six books before Anita finally did Jean-Claude. Then she knows Micah for what-two chapters and she doin' him in the shower! He's like,"As long as I can do you,I'll do whatever you want." Perv! Wuss! I'm sorry, I just really don't like him! But anyways, I liked NiC. Lots of wierd almost sex. At least she finally got to be in bed with JC and Asher at the same time even if she never actually has sex with any of the four guys in the bed. What's with her and not wanting the threesome? "I don't want to have sex until marriage", "No I don't want to be a menage a trois with JC and Asher", " Oh Micah I've only known you for two seconds, but my what a big d*ck you have! All the better to..." You get the picture!

I have to agree with you about Micah...I just don't care for the guy...and I prefer felines over canines for pets! I think LKH invented Micah to be everything that Richard SHOULD have been for Anita but was too darn stubborn to be. Still...as far as his SIZE goes...I still hold that QUALITY (read: JC) is more important than QUANTITY (read: big enough to leave a third track at the beach...ick)...and I can honestly say that from personal experience (not with JC and Micah...but I HAVE been with a guy that had one as big as his...just didn't do it for me).
