A Kylie lookalike has got behind a new fund-raising campaign in aid of research into male cancers - by climbing aboard the world's largest bike.

A survey for Cancer Research UK found Kylie Minogue and Sean Connery are the celebrities with whom the public would most like to share a tandem.

So to mark the launch of the charity's Cycle for Life fund-raising campaign, a Kylie lookalike joined Cancer UK representatives to climb aboard a 24-seater bicycle.

The charity's Cycle for Life campaign is being launched to coincide with Men's Cancer Awareness Month, in June.

People are being asked to take part in one of a dozen 30-kilometre cycle rides across the country from July to September, each raising at least 50 sponsorship for cancer research.

Dr Lesley Walker, director of cancer information at Cancer Research UK, said: "Raising awareness for cancers that affect men is particularly important as research shows that men tend to be more reticent about going to the doctor.

"Nowadays, many cancers affecting men can be successfully treated if they are caught early enough."

The survey, conducted for the charity by NOP, found that 52% of men aged 25 to 34 wanted to share a tandem with Kylie Minogue, beating J Lo, Madonna and Victoria Beckham. Sir Sean Connery was the most popular with women aged over 45, while Robbie came top with younger female respondents.

The survey also looked at cycling trends and found that 70% of the country's adults had not been on a bicycle in the past year and 42% had not ridden a bike in the past five years.

Anyone wanting to take part in the Cycle for Life can enter on-line at www.cancerresearchuk.org or by calling 0870 161 1010.
