”Wait for me”, screamed Sarah as she quickly ran towards the bus.
The bus stopped and she climbed on.
”Oh, thank you”, she was able to say, between breaths.
The young bus driver smiled at her and said:
”You’re welcome”.

She paid, and sat down as she gathered herself and took a deep breath. This was her first year at college. Sarah was thinking of becoming a lawyer. Her parents were recently killed in a car accident, by a drunk driver who came onto the wrong side of the road. They died instantly, she was told. The driver was the son of some hotshot, and apparently his parents bribed the judge or something because he was never sentenced. And now Sarah was set on becoming a lawyer to protect the innocent and to sentence the guilty. Now she was alone in the world, but she knew that she had a father and a mother out there somewhere. She was adopted. As a child, her parents had found her outside their door in a small basket with a note:

Please take care of my child, for I cannot do it. She is 6 months old. This pendant she is wearing – keep it as a reminder for her from me. I love her so, but I cannot keep her. This is best for her.

She played with her pendant around her neck as she thought of her mother. The pendant she has always worn, a gift from her mother. It was a half circle; the other half to make the circle whole was missing. It looked like a half sun. If you looked closely at it you could see that it had been divided into two parts. Sarah wondered where the other half was. She looked down at the pendant. It was made of some strange metal. Sarah had never seen a colour like this before. It had a golden glow in it but yet it looked like solid silver. Not even once in her whole life had she needed to polish the surface; it had never lost it’s shine. In the pendant two stones were set, one red stone and one green stone. The green stone was a shining emerald, and the red one was a dazzling ruby. Sarah wondered what the other part of the pendant looked like.

”Sarah ”, she heard a voice call out. She looked around. The bus was empty except for the driver. Oh well, she thought to herself, I’m only imagining it.

At the next bus stop she was just about to go off when suddenly an image came flashing. She felt like if she was standing in a forest. And as suddenly as the image had come it vanished.
”What is going on?” she asked herself. She said to the bus driver: ”I’m all right, really I am”, as he looked funny at her, and then she got off the bus. Her apartment was just a block away and it only took her a couple of minutes to get home.

She unlocked the door and entered. It was as though she entered a whole other world and she suddenly was standing in a forest. It was bright, she saw that she was in a glade, the birds were singing and the sun was shining. Sarah could sense a vague scent of flowers. This can’t be happening, she thought to herself. I must be dreaming…her thoughts were interrupted by a female voice that said:
”Sarah.”
This time she could hear that it was coming from behind. She turned around and stood eye to eye with a blond young girl. Here eyes were as blue as the sky and she looked at Sarah. Sarah with her big brown eyes looked back. She noticed the young girls ears. They were long and pointy. Sarah had never in her whole life seen ears like that, and she thought that they were funny, but she was in no mood to laugh.
