Subject: Creation myth #1

I wanted a creation myth as background for the book I'm working on. This is completely different from Elendal's creation myth - I was aiming for simple and primitive. Tell me what you think.

***

K'ei, who is also called Cei who is also named Shea in the lands of the pale people, was walking in the desert one day, one hot bright day before the beginning of the world, when he stubbed his toe on a stone. "What stone is this?" thought K'ei, "where no stone has ever been, for all there is is the great shining desert, and my footprints the only mark in all of it?"

He bent to pick up the stone, and turned it in his hands for many hours, wondering at it. It was a small grey stone, where the sands of the desert were red. It was smooth and cool, where all about K'ei was hot and course.

K'ei longed to have someone to talk to about the strange strange stone, but he was alone.

Overcome with loneliness and frustration, K'ei leapt up and bit the little finger of his left hand right off, and he plucked three hairs from his head, and with these he bound up the finger and the stone and threw them into the air, saying;

"Let this part of me be free of me, let this mystery that I have found be the soul of it, let only the hairs from my head bind it to me; for I have been alone too long and would have company."

The stone turned and turned in the air, and when it landed on the hot sand, lo! A beautiful maiden appeared, and she was K'ann, who is called Carne, who is also named Sharn, in the lands of the pale people.

K'ann walked to K'ei and kissed him on the mouth, saying;

"I am part of you, but I am free. My soul will always be a mystery to you, but I am bound to you for all days, and will be your companion, as you are bound to me and will be mine."

Then K'ei was overcome with joy, and they both shed silver tears of happiness, which watered the sand, and there grew trees and flowers, and there were insects upon the flowers and birds in the air and animals on the ground. Where the most of their tears pooled, there formed a sea, and in it were fish and all manner of watery creatures.

That is the story of K'ei and K'ann, the parents of all people.
