We're heading toward NG (no finish) vs IMA (high finish)...

Anyway, I think it is important for people learning (or relearning) golf to FEEL acceleration through the golf ball. Telling a student to "swing to a high finish" causes a loss of focus on the ball (which isn't always a bad thing).

But, I feel that the idea of stopping the finish ingrains the sensation of proper acceleration. Swinging to a high finish might win style points but doesn't guarantee acceleration through the ball.

I would be willing to bet that a student that practices stopping the follow through, eventually starts to develop a proper follow through! This will occur because as the acceleration gets faster, the follow through will lengthen due to momentum. IMHO and IANANGCI (I am NOT an NGCI).
