Sounds like a few of you have discovered the firing of the right side (Tommy Armour style). This is a very traditional move in golf that goes in and out of favor. The feeling is that the downswing starts with a downward motion of the right arm/hand /elbow or other part of the right arm you want to focus on. You will not be successful in feeling this motion, if your body is in the way ( of free arm swing). NG accomplishes this by having you reach for the ball with the single axis setup. More conventional is the early rotation of the hips (Hogan). Problem with hip turn is it has the tendency to promote an over the top move when your timing is off (hands lag behind body). Squaring the body at impact is better to prevent this tendency and is accomplished by initiating your downswing with the hands and arms first, then the body reacts. Key word to remember is "reacts".

Hope this clarifies. Simply put setup for a free arm swing with correct grip and feel the downswing as an underhand throwing motion. Don't worry about visualizing position so much as feeling the underhand motion to start the downswing.
