The idea is that you should get to impact BEFORE the free release would cause the rotation of the club face to closed. This is the link of supination to late hit and holding the angle.

You don't want to inhibit release, just be sure you get to impact while still supinated. for me it is impact as (or after) wrist breakdown that leads to the balloon shots you seem to be describing.
