The IMA video is VERY explicit about how to release.

Despite the influence of IMA drills #s 1 & 2, pay attention to the point made in #3 about not consciously extending the right wrist.

I have not asked if this is correct, but I now intepret the drills as there to train a motion that will not be conscious in its execution. In other words if you try to 'DO' the release drills in your swing you will execute badly. However after your muscles have been trained you WILL release the club in the right way.

You mentioned pulls. For me pulls come primarily from too much rotation (not facing the ball at impact)and occaisionally from ball position (too far forward). Fades result from either a constricted release ot not keeping the left wrist 'flat'.
