But the idea of "trying out" all of the animals in Eden is not new to me (I have heard rabbis speak of this many times). Of course the idea that Adam was actually a complete human originally and was split into two equal beings later. (The Hebrew wod for "create" also means "Differentiate." So God differentiated, or separated creation - reread Genesis with this in mind and you will see the opposite nature of the things created.)

Another reason to support this view is that the Hebrew word for "rib" also means "side." So God took one side to make Eve. But of course these interpretations never really help the Christian ideal of placing the woman in a lesser role, or showing that man was created better he turned out.

My favorite is that Adam (man) was the first draft, and God later perfected His creation with Eve (woman). This is also spoken of by the rabbis in the same humorous type of exposition of Torah that the above is mentioned.

Enjoy your scriptures, they contain sex, drunkeness, lewd behavior, and greed - enough to have inspired almost evenything you have seen on Jerry Springer (one time mayor of Cincinnati - the town that prosecuted Larry Flint). Of course all the good stuff is glossed over or ignored in Sunday school (if you are not Jewish at least).
