Subject: What is scary is that the fears
In reply to: Drummond 's message, "This is scary" on 01:01:25 08/31/02 Sat

The fears go hand in hand with our own surrender of the means of self protection. So we give up the rights and the freedoms, but then we also give the government more control over us.

Of course we all trust the government, right?

They have everything under control, and would never hurt us, right?

I am being sarcastic for a reason. If we learned to act correctly to reduce our fears, the anit-gun people would be laughed at.

We are taught that owning a gun is wrong, but we have violent TV shows. Now we have begun to surrender our rights of private gun ownership, because we fear accidents more than we fear our government becoming another fascist regime. CAUTION PLEASE.

To give up the ability to protect ourselves is also the choice of dependence on others. A choice I am not willing to make. As long as criminals and governments have access to weapons, I believe we should have the same. The alternative is to always need police, to become helpless to people with box cutters, or as in the case of some of my relatives in the past, to watch as your children were placed on trains and sent to their deaths.

If you think it is far fetched, look at the dangers in gene research if eventually some agency can decide the "preferred" genes. Doing so would make some genes "less preferred" and therefore selective breeding has returned to the human race. This is not any different than the eugenics of the 1920s and 1930s (used to justify the Nazis heirarchy of the races).

Sleep well with your choices trying to protect your safety.
