Korea is about as industrialized as we are. It isn't poverty that gets these orphans in trouble. It's a very strict culture that stigmatizes anybody born out of wedlock, and ruins the parents' lives.
The girl actually tried to hide her pregancy for awhile, but then told her mother. She said, "I only did it once!"
Once is all it takes.
In the meantime, we've let it be known to the parents that they can maintain contact if they wish. Some adoptive parents are threatened by that, but I don't see why. The parents don't usually opt for that, but if they ever change their mind...
