I get it. There was some aditional, apparently unintended humor. I thought you were referencing the tradition within Catholicism (and some branches of protestantinism) which revolves around holy communion.
It does seem wierd, holy communion. The claim is that the wafers are mystically transformed, literally, into Christ's flesh. I thought that your implication was that canablism is o.k., as long as it's in a religious context.
As for the politics:
Yes, I hear you. I'm a little weary, and cynical about the whole affair-- and I'm not sure that's good. But in some ways this feels like deja vu, all over again. I think you're a little young to remember much of Bush's daddy (no condescension meant) and Bush Sr.'s predessor, Ronald Reagan. But I spent a lot of energy getting quite wrapped up in the magnitude of unjustness they inflicted on the underclasses. It's not good that I don't have much energy left, but well... what can I say?
I hope your friend keeps his chin up. I was there, not very long ago, working hard in a dead end job, falling quite deeply in debt. It's a terrible way to live. I am far from wealthy-- barely middle class, in fact-- but I'm not living hand to mouth anymore. Tell you friend to hang in there. It can get better.
Noomie
