Ohhhh, Marnie, you just made my day! Our best blooming azalea is the 'Formosa'--kinda rosy pink. Others do well, too, but this one is the champ. Must be one of the first that gardeners have planted--they are huge--shrub size in many yards. Dogwood trees are a natural here, too, but not in the area where I live. Guess we gardeners kill them with kindness--but, they do quite well in the wild. Japanese maples are not too plentiful but we do have our fair share of the gumball and popcorn trees. We give the birds credit for that population.

What about magnolias? I would guess that they grow well in your area, too. My dil's family is from Seattle and she told me that her dad has a magnolia tree in his front yard. Also, said that people come by and pick the blossoms. The flowers on the trees here are huge--maybe 8-10" in diameter. You would need more than picking fingers to pluck them. LOL
