Russia Continues Supposing Bin-Laden's Possible Presence in Pankisi

(Tbilisi, February 19, Civil Georgia) - In the wake of Russian Foreign Minister's statement about Bin-Laden's possible presence in Pankisi gorge, Russian Defense Minister announced on February 18 that "there is no fact confirming that Bin-Laden is not in Pankisi - his presence there is quite possible."

Georgian State Security Minister Valeri Khaburdzania in the interview to the Georgian state TV channel called such a statement "unserious".

Earlier on February 18 President Shevardnadze stated that he was astonished with the Russian Foreign Minister's statement concerning Bin-Laden's possible presence in Pankisi.

And here's another excerpt showing that Sarcasm is not lost in Russia! :)

Shevardnadze Jokes on Russian Foreign Minister's Statement on Bin-Laden

(Tbilisi, February 18, Civil Georgia) - President Shevardnadze commented Russian Foreign Affairs Minister's statement concerning Bin-Laden's possible presence in Pankisi gorge and stated that this announcement astonished him.

"Igor Ivanov's [Russian Foreign Minister] mother's home is in Akhmeta district [Pankisi gorge is situated there]. Maybe we shall find Bin-Laden there?" - President joked on the Russian Foreign Minister Ivanov's statement.

Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Igor Ivanov stated at the news briefing in Paris after meeting with his French counterpart on February 15 that Osama Bin-Laden may be in Pankisi gorge.

There's quite a little rhetoric battle going on between Shevardnadze and Russian officials. Let's see where this one goes!!
