>i doubt that russia feels that it should get more medals then expected. however it is not surprise that the olympics are so highly politicized. there have been many other instances in the history of olympics in this century that show how much politics can play a role in such an event. further it is no wonder that the olympics are such a big deal and so politicized currently for the fact that they are in the US. of course the US feels like it has to prove itself great no matter what. i mean america is showing the whole world how great it is in all aspects especially after 9/11. the olympics in salt lake are to show how american athletes are not only awesome but they are winning for the wonderful US, for the "united we stand." as far as boycotting the olympics, ummm i don't know, perhaps a little over the top. however america has made the olympics over-politicized and i am honestly not surprised. i don't think buch openign the ceremonies has anything to do with it either. country leaders open the olympics always. the french did it in albertville and the king of spain did it in barcelona so not all that novel. and bottom line is that nothing truly amazes me about these olypics especially after the whole ice skating scandal. sure olympics always have some sort of drama but having them in the US definitely helped out with adding to it. the whole scandal is absolutely ridiculous and i think that the canadians showed how little class they have (sale and pelltier sp?) after pouting over not getting the gold medal. the russians deserved it and the canadians shold have been more than happy with the silver. funny how only the french judge got in trouble and no one else. there is always some trouble with judging such subjective events. i find it funny that the people in charge of the olympics didn't bother changing some aspect of how judging of ice skating is done, before the olympics. i mean according to the media this sort of scandal is nothing new in the ice skating world. apparently the judging is rigged a lot in this sport. what happens is, you open the door to one scandal and then a whole plethora of scandals comes on. the olympics in salt lake city this year were not terrible but a definite disappointment. i think this all went to show that had it not taken place in the US (especially at this time in history), they would have been slightly different. whether it is ice skating or boycotting there sure is excitement. well what can i say america loves any kind of scandal, especially when it can compare itself to others and point out how much better it is. all in all i don't think that the russians are that out of line in what they have done at these olympics
