Subject: Russia is America's good buddy now?

State of the Union address....wow, wasn't that convincing and reassuring. It's going downhill so hold on to your boot straps maybe you can pull yourself over the other ones.
I don't want to get into Education, Detainees, Economy and other issues which are so upsetting as an outsider so I rather focus on Bush's mentioning Russia as its new partner.
Well, more like partner in crime if you look at the whole "illegal" "war" on "terrorism". If the US is really such a great partner of Russia then I don't understand why America is not dropping troops over Chechnya. Helping Putin out of this mess is good press or isn't it? Well, then again, there were those 50 some years of pure hatred for everything Russian - it's not that easily sold to the American people to help and ex-enemy.
Especially now when America is getting the upper hand again, cancelling the missile test treaty (a classic in international law) must seem to Putin like an invitation to put the glooves back on. But wait, that was before the attack right? So now, instead of artificially creating a new enemy out of an old one (Russia) America has plenty of others to choose from and that on unlimited time. Because the war on terrorism is not a normal war it is a "new" war. Soon, America will run out of Terrorists and then even Oppositions in countries such as Mexico will become terrorists or at least rebels. Just an extreme example but you know deep down in your heart that the US would find a way to sell this to you as a perfect legitimate thing to do!
So, while American and Russian nuclear subs still trail each other in the atlantic and pacific, while american and russian silos are still full with interballistic missiles just waiting to be taken over and launched by some crazies the world is suppossed to be this big happy Alliance. Think again. There is no place for idealism in our world today.
People like Medea Benjamin are the true heroes of our time, Science is even getting to the point to be a more powerful voice for freedom and unity than politics. Ahhh, brave new world. :) WOw, it's late - gotta cut it short - seeya today in class. Patrick
