Subject: Bush's speech

This morning in class, I totally agreed with Eric. I thought Bush's speech was both amuzing and interesting. First of all, I don't think this speech deserved 30 or more standing ovations. A standing ovation is worth after a kind of extraordinary speech, but not after every single sentence as last night... Anyway.
As far as the content of the speech, I thought it was very demagocic. Bush addressed all kind of issues that are the center of most Americans concern: providing security, ending the recession, improving health care, the education system, even the environment (if I am correct, which was pretty impressive and surprising), create jobs, and on top of that, cut taxes... wooo that's sounds the perfect world?! Now the question is how he is "actually" gonna do all these reforms. It seems totally incoherent to say that a health system and education... ect will be more funded or improved while cutting taxes. I am not an Economist but if someone wants to give me a rational explanation, I would be glad to hear it.
In other words, I thought it was a good demagogic speech, to reassure the American people and keep a 80% popularity among the U.S citizens.
Last week, we talked about weak states and the lack of legitimacy leading to revolutions. I think this kind of speech is an exemple of what strong states use in order to reassure the public and make things better than they are. In a context of uprising, this would probably not occur. It might sound confusing. I apologize for that.
Anyway, that was my insight on the speech.
