Straedus slowly wheeled along the beach, savoring the loud sound of the waves crashing on the beach, drowning out the hum of his motorized wheelchair. One arm, bent and twisted, rested lifelessly on his lap, evidence of some past accident. His bright green eyes scanned the rolling dunes of bright yellow sand, but there was no living creature in sight. With a sigh, he lifted his hand from the small lever that controlled the wheelchair's movements, and straightened his khaki-colored cargo pants. Then, almost fussily, he smoothed the wrinkles from his white t-shirt which hung almost like a tent around his thin, brittle body. A comb was pulled from a side-pocket on the wheelchair, and perfected the carrot-red hair which topped the thin, pale face. Already, in his early twenties, he had the air of an old man, though his face was unlined.

Once more the wheelchair pressed forwards, and when it had reached the top of a rather high sand dune, his persistence paid off: a girl about his age was sitting down in the beach. He rolled down the dune, the thick rubber wheels slipping in the fine-grained sand, until he was a few feet away from the other person. Then he called out a greeting in a surprisingly deep voice for such a tiny frame,

"Hello there. My name's Straedus Rhel. Who're you?"
