Subject: Her gaze flicked to 'Joey'

She watched her, sputtering a little at the scent of the cigarette. Cigarettes sucked. They didn't do shit. Not even a slight buzz in exchange for the lung cancer. What was up with that??

Even she wasn't really sure what she was. One theory she had was based upon her religion. She believed that a soul was like a parasitic organism, coming into a child at the time of it was concieved. The soul feeding off of the human was the reason that the human--or animal--grew, aged, matured. When the body was too withered and used up to inhabit any longer, the soul left it, and the body died minutes later, and the soul was left without a body until it found another. There were, of course, millions floating around without a body to inhabit. And when there were none that wanted a child, well... that was when the child died in the womb.

She believed that, for some reason or another, she'd either been chosen by a very old and very powerful soul, or her body was just stronger than most. Either way, her body was lasting hundreds of years longer than it should have, healing faster and better, never or rarely growing sick...

She sank to the ground, pulling her knees up to her chest. She whimpered, like a quiet echo of the cry she'd made moments ago....
