Synopsis

Undoubtedly one of the most famous and influential movies ever to come out of the industry, Zu Warriors is the original inspiration for John Carpenter's big-budget smash-hit ``Big Trouble in Little China'', and director Ang Lee borrowed heavily to re-create the stylish visuals for his multi-oscar winning epic, ``Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon''.
Director John Carpenter: ``I was always a fan of kung fu movies. I had seen `Five Fingers of Death' and the Bruce Lee movies in the Seventies. Zu (Warriors) gave me a lot of ideas with regard to depicting the nature of Chinese monsters and the supernatural in Big Trouble''
Often referred to as the `Steven Spielberg of Asia', producer/director Tsui Hark, is a prolific storyteller, with an unique visual style and keen sense of dramatic timing. His movies are always fresh, vivid and supremely entertaining, and he is one of the genre's best-known director/producers, with a CV, which is envy of almost everyone in the business.
Highlights:

Producer/director: ``The Once upon a Time in China'' Series
Producer: ``The Chinese Ghost'' Story Series
Producer: Director (Part 3): `The Better Tomorrow' Trilogy
Producer: The Swordsman Trilogy
Producer: Black Mask
Producer: Iron Monkey
Producer: The Killer (With John Woo and Chow Yun-fat)
Producer/ Director: `Zu Warriors' and `The Legend of Zu'
Director: Double Team
Director: Knock Off

Featuring breath-taking art design, striking cinematography and shot on stunning locations in the Sichun Mountains, ``Zu Warriors' revolutionized the Hong Kong special-effects industry, as Tsui combined Western technology and expertise with Chinese imagery for the very first time.
For Zu, he assembled some of the best Western talents in the business, including:
Robert Blalack (Star Wars-visual effects and matt-animation)
Peter Kuran (Star Trek: The Motion Picture-optical effects and matt-animation)
Arnie Wong and John Scheele (Tron- 3D animation)
Now re-mastered for the first time ever on DVD, ``Zu Warriors'' is one of the most sought after Hong Kong films for DVD collectors and appears in the `Top Ten' lists of numerous critics, including Jonathan Ross, who dedicated an entire episode to the movie and it's director on the first series of `The Incredibly Strange Picture Show'.
Zu, quite deservedly received four nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards, but unfortunately fell victim to political pressure within the industry who resented the high-profile involvement of Western visual effects artists, and so granted the awards to lesser projects. The nominations were as follows:
Best Action Choreography Corey Yuen
Best Actress Brigitte Lin
Best Art Direction William Chang
Best Film Editing Chi Kwong Shek
