Subject: The Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts £¨Media Release 19.4.2002 - Of Heaven & Earth website

New Owners, New Name for the Former Ford Centre Revitalized theatre will re-open with North American debut ¡®Of Heaven and Earth¡¯ Vancouver, BC, (January 7, 2002): The newly-renamed The Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts will re-open this spring, presenting an eclectic menu of theatre, dance, and music from all over the world.

¡°Vancouver is a vibrant Pacific Rim city, deserving of a world-class theatre that offers not only performing arts, but also provides a stage for a variety of other ventures, including high tech activities, concerts and conferences,¡± said Dr. Dennis Law of Four Brothers Entertainment, the centre¡¯s new owner.

The first show to be presented at The Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts will be the North American premiere ¡®Of Heaven and Earth¡¯, an extraordinary East-West fusion dance show that made its debut in China last year. This history making show, for its daringly seductive and modern treatment of a legendary love story, in which 1,000 years of Chinese acrobatics, dance and martial arts were brought into the present, played to sold out audiences at Beijing¡¯s Poly Theatre in September 2001.

¡°We plan to revitalize both the theatre and the entertainment choices it offers, to appeal to Vancouverites and visitors alike,¡± said Dennis Law, one of the four Chinese-American physicians, all brothers, who reside in Denver whose company, Four Brothers Entertainment has just acquired the theatre. The Law brothers¡¯ interests and businesses range from medicine to consumer products, and commercial real estate, as well as to cultural and educational philanthropy.

The Law family hails from Hong Kong, where the family established the Joseph & Loretta Law Foundation to support a wide variety of charitable and community causes, with a focus on East-West cultural exchange. The foundation has supported Opera Colorado, the Colorado Ballet, scholarships at the Beijing Dance Academy and at the Wharton School and the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, among many other charitable contributions both in North America and Asia.

The Centre in Vancouver for the Performing Arts is centrally located in downtown Vancouver, mid-block on Homer Street, across from Vancouver¡¯s Library Square.
