Well, I can understand that. The rules (and even the imagination) will often fail to satisfy. ;-)

A question for you to ask yourself. Did you play SL or did you play ASL "years ago" ... I'd guess that it was ASL. Most of us here spend our time playing the "original" SL. True, it is no longer in print, but considering how many copies were made and sold, they are easily available. Some are even still unpunched.

So, this is not exactly what you were asking ... but consider the original SL as a viable option. I Beta- playtested ASL, and eventually decided that the original SL (and Cross of Iron is a very good expansion) was, indeed a more accurate representation of the battlefield decisions faced by a company commander, all in a more playable (IMO) and faster-moving game.

Besides. If you play SL you don't have to adopt the game as a "way of life" ... as you will find yourself doing if you wish to become an accomplished ASL player.

Yes, this is just in my opinion ...
