Subject: Re: Voluntary breaking and DM; Broken adjacent to CC
In reply to: Scott 's message, "Voluntary breaking and DM; Broken adjacent to CC" on 10:05:21 06/29/05 Wed

Scott asks:
>A unit is fired on in the prep fire phase resulting in
>no effect. The unit voluntarily breaks and moves away
>in the rout phase. Is it subject to DM in the
>subsquent rally phase?

Yes. The importnat thing is the following sentence of
rule 14.6, "... attempting to rally which has been fired
on by 1 or more firepower factors SINCE THE PRECEEDING
RALLY PHASE (regardless of the effect of that attack)
must roll DM ...."

>Can a broken unit remain adjacent to an enemy unit
>involved in CC melee? I believe broken units can rout
>through open ground in the LOS of enemy units engaged
>in CC melee because they have zero range. Would this
>same logic apply to broken units remaining adjacent to
>an enemy unit in CC melee?

No. Enemy units in melee are still enemy units, so the
broken unit(s) may not remain adjacent. You are correct
about the range of enemy units that are locked in melee.

Enjoy your games of Squad Leader!
