Subject: Installing SQL and necessary resources

After having to wipe my hard drive clean, I've finally been ready to reload squad leader and rejoin the squad leader community. And just as I remembered from my very first attempts to play Squad Leader online -- it's a very very difficult process to get started. For my second time this week I've been at it for a little over an hour and reached a frustrated dead end. There must be a way to simplify this process for newbies coming in - perhaps it would even attract more players.

The first time on it took me a little while to find a place to download the VASSAL engine, but much longer to find a place to download the VSQL module. Now I'm on the hunt for elusive boards. I've found plenty of places that tell me that I need to get them... but none on offer. The "How to Get Started" section lists priority number one as joining a mailing list. I'm trying to imagine what it would possibly be like for someone that hasn't even played the online version before...

Recommendation:

1) Make a zip file that contains the latest engine, the VSQL module, and boards 1-20 (or whatever practical), and a readme.txt with clear instructions on how to put 'em all together. Make it available from all Squad Leader related sites that are willing.

2) Make clear links to this available file -- not ambigueous one's such as "see who's playing live right now" (eh?, does this have all the files I need...?)

Just some recommendations...
