Subject: Marion & Milford

8lb, Marion is my home lake, and I fish Milford even more. I'll have to go along with Jack, and pick Milford. Not for numbers, but for size. On Milford you should be able to average around 6 lbs, depending on which school your on. Some days the 3-7 lber's are dominant, while once and awhile you'll get into a school of 8-16 lber's. A few years ago,it wasn't unusual to catch over 50 wipers in a day. Now I would consider 20 wipers to be a good day. Still, the size makes up for the numbers.

I find myself fishing there less & less every year though, due to this wiper thing catching on so well. It gets too crowded at times for me. At one time there would be 3 or 4 boats on fish, but now days the attention can draw 30 boats on top of you.

Marion's bioligist tends to over rate his lakes,IMHO. But,there are a bunch of wipers there,in the 1-4 lb. class. There is a big gender gap then, until you get to a small school of 10-12 lber's (very few). Right now, you can drift the flats in front of the game refuge (between hillsboro cove & french creek),and cleanup on these smaller wipers dragging jigs and spinners tipped with crawlers. Great fun on light tackle, especially for the kids. Marion was overstocked with wipers, right after the big whitebass kill a few years back. I think their survival rate was extremely high, due to the lack of competition for food. After a couple more years, there aught to be some good fishing there. The large schools of wipers will be thinned considerablely during this time, due to many livewells being filled by people thinking they're catching whitebass. I see this everyday I fish there, but I feel that they need to be thinned out a little anyway. Later in the summer these big schools of smaller wipers will be hitting any hump, that's close to the river channel.

If I can be of more help on either of these lakes, let me know.........Brian
