I'm still waiting for our boat to be done. I might actually do some wade fishing this year per no boat for another month. I appreciated your information sharing. My experience is less than most that will read this, but I too have done the best when I've found the bait this time of year. Last year at this time on Wilson, the best technique for me was to drag a bucktail along the bottom slowly with a hook set required on a very light hit. Actually, snagged several shad with this technique, usually in the upper back region of the shad. Most of the shad I snagged were very large, around 15 inches. I think that sized shad population is very healthy at Wilson. Good luck to all.
