Incidentally, Bruce Springsteen, Mr All-American Good-Guy and Devil-May-Care Flying Fool (ah, crap, that's Roger Ramjet) has recently come out in support of what Natalie said.

I'm not familiar with his actual words and would therefore hesitate to pretend to quote him directly, but he said along the lines of 'as an American, she's got every right to criticise the Prez; more so than someone from any other country'.

This whole incident seems to me to highlight the awful truth: Americans are insane.

I would also like to qualify that statement. Individually I have met some wonderful and intelligent and insightful Americans (and a few complete wankers, so nothing unique about the US so far) but it seems that if you get a bunch of them in a pack, the average level of intelligence and reasonableness of the group is dramatically lowered. Why is this? I don't know. If you ask me, it seems utterly illogical. But then, it's also illogical to pull a band's records for using one of the rights accorded to them in the Bill of Rights, something which the US establishment apparently holds sacred.

Nope. No sense at all.

Shrug.
