Subject: Breaking News at startrek.com

Walter "Matt" Jefferies, the designer of the original USS Enterprise (and the man whom Jefferies Tubes are named after), has passed away, aged 82.

The link points to the story, being updated as details come to hand, at startrek.com.

I'm not really sure what to say, or indeed if anything more needs to be said. I didn't know him past seeing his name on the credits, and also the Jefferies Tubes reference, but this story definitely got my attention when I first saw it reported by BBC News. My first thoughts were that there's another piece that's been added to the legend.
